As early as 2010, ARCHEMED assisted in the establishment of a neonatal care unit at the referral hospital and has since supported this project through the training of nursing staff and doctors as well as the improvement of infrastructure.
The POCA (Pediatric Orthopedic Centre of Asmara) is to be established at Orotta Hospital in Asmara: a point of contact for children with disabilities of any kind. In particular, children with physical and intellectual impairments are also to be admitted there in cooperation with the Social Pediatrics project.
Usually together with the ENT team, an expert in oral, maxillofacial, and plastic facial surgery travels to Eritrea twice a year for ARCHEMED to treat patients with facial clefts.
We have been supporting children in Afghanistan since November 2021. Despite a degree of stabilization in urban areas, the healthcare system in rural Afghanistan remains dysfunctional and urgently dependent on support from international donors.
