For many years, an experienced team of pediatric surgeons, pediatric orthopedists, and plastic surgeons has been traveling to Ifunda Province in Tanzania to treat children with congenital and acquired malformations of organs and limbs.
The “Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)” in Asmara has been supported and accompanied twice a year since 2015 by an ARCHEMED team, consisting of pediatric intensive care nurses and, since 2018, also a pediatric cardiologist.
As early as 2010, ARCHEMED assisted in the establishment of a neonatal care unit at the referral hospital and has since supported this project through the training of nursing staff and doctors as well as the improvement of infrastructure.
Through numerous missions, ARCHEMED has established and equipped three intensive care patient rooms, one storage room, and two delivery rooms with medical supplies, and has also significantly improved the electricity and water supply.
An initial exploratory trip in March 2023, followed by many constructive discussions and considerations with the leading physicians and responsible policymakers on site, was followed a year later by another trip to Bhutan.
