Guidelines
Humanitarian Principles
Our medical and humanitarian aid is provided regardless of national, religious, or political origin. We reject all forms of discrimination. All operations, treatments, and therapies in the project countries are free of charge for patients and their families.
Commitment
All staff members we send to the project countries work on a voluntary basis. They travel during their annual leave, free time, or retirement, often accepting the most challenging conditions.
Respect
We respect and value the specific needs, traditions, and values of the people in the target country and are committed to collaborative and participatory cooperation. We are convinced that development cooperation only works when one enters into an equal relationship with the local people, be they patients or project partners. We develop our programs and standards in dialogue with local colleagues.
Empowerment
Through the training and further education of local specialists, as well as the provision of medical infrastructure, we create sustainable systems that function and succeed even without our direct presence. We support the competencies and initiatives of local people so that external aid eventually becomes unnecessary. We involve people in all decisions and measures from the outset, thereby creating viable, locally adapted solutions.
Collaboration
We focus on the essentials, namely the immediate needs of people in distress. We operate without extensive bureaucratic routines and streamline our processes as much as possible. Our hierarchies are flat, both on-site in the projects and in the administration of our association. Our working method is open and cooperative, based on mutual trust and respect. With a good mix of personal responsibility and team spirit, we can meet the great challenges.
