The ward for premature and sick newborns in Asmara has existed since 2002 and has been supported and accompanied by two ARCHEMED teams several times a year since the association was founded in 2010.
In cooperation with the Pediatric Oncology in Developing Countries working group and the International Society of Pediatric Oncology, ARCHEMED will implement the first programs to combat cancer in Eritrea.
The “Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)” in Asmara has been supported and accompanied twice a year since 2015 by an ARCHEMED team, consisting of pediatric intensive care nurses and, since 2018, also a pediatric cardiologist.
As early as 2010, ARCHEMED assisted in the establishment of a neonatal care unit at the referral hospital and has since supported this project through the training of nursing staff and doctors as well as the improvement of infrastructure.
Through numerous missions, ARCHEMED has established and equipped three intensive care patient rooms, one storage room, and two delivery rooms with medical supplies, and has also significantly improved the electricity and water supply.
