The reno­va­ti­on of the lar­ge cli­nic for burn vic­tims in Asma­ra is a pro­ject clo­se to our hearts and has made signi­fi­cant pro­gress thanks to the efforts of the ele­ven-mem­ber con­s­truc­tion team led by gra­dua­te engi­neer Timm Mit­zen­heim. Due to a defec­ti­ve roof, mold had for­med throug­hout the buil­ding, par­ti­cu­lar­ly in the sur­gi­cal area. In an envi­ron­ment that must meet the hig­hest ste­ri­li­ty requi­re­ments, mold can lead to the spread of dan­ge­rous germs and signi­fi­cant­ly increase the risk of infec­tion for pati­ents.

After the defec­ti­ve roof was sea­led ear­lier this year, the ARCHEMED craft­smen have now car­ri­ed out the pro­fes­sio­nal repair of the enti­re sur­gi­cal wing. The con­ta­mi­na­ted walls were san­ded down and trea­ted with a spe­cial coa­ting that pre­vents new mold growth in the long term. New cei­ling panels were instal­led in par­ti­cu­lar­ly affec­ted are­as. The flo­or was also given a new sur­face that is excep­tio­nal­ly hygie­nic, resistant, and dura­ble. As a result, the sur­gi­cal area is now func­tion­al and rea­dy for use again.

The PV sys­tem on the cli­nic’s roof, now reinstal­led and con­nec­ted, sup­pli­es the sur­gi­cal area with elec­tri­ci­ty, ensu­ring that sur­gi­cal pro­ce­du­res can be car­ri­ed out con­ti­nuous­ly even wit­hout the fre­quent­ly fai­ling city power grid.

Work then con­tin­ued in the adja­cent ward buil­ding. Here, too, the roof panels had to be repla­ced becau­se mois­tu­re had pene­tra­ted. The reno­va­ti­on of the cei­lings and walls, as well as a com­ple­te over­haul of all sani­ta­ry faci­li­ties, will take place next year.
