Pedia­tric Uro­lo­gy Bhu­tan

The pedia­tric uro­lo­gy pro­ject in Bhu­tan’s capi­tal, Thim­phu, aims to impro­ve medi­cal care for child­ren with uro­lo­gi­cal dise­a­ses. Start­ing in spring 2025, pedia­tric uro­lo­gy spe­cia­lists will tra­vel regu­lar­ly to Bhu­tan to per­form dia­gno­stics and, abo­ve all, com­plex sur­gi­cal pro­ce­du­res tog­e­ther with local col­le­agues. A key com­po­nent of the pro­ject is the edu­ca­ti­on and fur­ther trai­ning for medi­cal and nur­sing staff: through work­shops and prac­ti­cal trai­ning, Bhu­ta­ne­se spe­cia­lists learn to per­form even com­pli­ca­ted pedia­tric uro­lo­gi­cal ope­ra­ti­ons inde­pendent­ly and to ensu­re post­ope­ra­ti­ve care. In this way, the pro­ject pro­mo­tes long-term inde­pen­dent care and streng­thens the local health­ca­re sys­tem.
